Design for the Main Sanctuary Ark and Stained Glass
December 2, 2009
In the experimental design, below, the color in the stained glass is achieved through a process of successive applications of a transparent fire on enamel colorant to the glass, which allows for a very soft blending of colors and a unique and spontaneous rendering of the design.
The ten white squares represent blocks of the painted composition which are removed and used in another part of the design, such as the section of glasswork which appears behind the ark and is mostly visible from the exterior of the building.
The horizontal design is achieved by using wide and narrow mullions as well as different thicknesses of lead lines which form the composition for the stained glass.
